Why Has Solar Garden Lighting Become So Popular?

With the invention of outdoor solar lighting homes around the world can easily be transformed into nighttime displays of glowing warmth. The ease with which these lights can be installed allows even an amateur to create near perfection with the first attempt.

Because there is no electrical wiring to install, these lights can be placed anywhere and everywhere. Simply put a solar light in the spot you have chosen, then move to the next spot without dragging any cord along.

The sun does the job of providing the necessary fuel during the daytime. Then, when darkness arrives in the evening, each separate light operates as though a switch was flipped to turn on the power. A tiny solar cell on the top of each light collects energy during the day when the sun is out. As the brightness of the sun disappears later in the evening, the stored energy in each solar light releases slowly. This produces the light. The next day, the process begins all over again.

Solar garden lights have become extremely popular because of the versatility and beauty they provide. A favorite has become the garden rock solar light. It consists of a solar light fixture mounted in a false rock. Because these rocks look so authentic, often people use several of them to create a beautifully landscaped area around an outdoor pool. During the day, the rocks serve as a wonderful backdrop to the blue water in the pool. At night, the area is transformed into a virtual paradise as the solar lights come on and produce accents on tropical plants, shrubbery, or fountains.

A favorite of many homeowners is the lantern-type hanging solar light. This type is frequently used on an outdoor deck. But a gorgeous pair of these lantern lights placed where the end of the driveway meets the road can dramatically mark a welcome entrance to a home. Rather than use a plain, cheap-looking reflector for the driveway, why not light the way to home with energy efficient solar lighting.

One of the best points about outdoor solar lighting is the lack of cost to power it. Once the installation is finished, the expense is complete. The sun does the rest.

Choosing Your Solar Garden Lights

If you have been looking for a new element to add some light and style to your garden then solar garden lights might be the perfect thing for you.  They are durable and come in a variety of colors, sizes and styles so that you are sure to find the best one for your garden.  There are a few things to keep in mind when picking out solar lights for your garden: placement, the style, and how many you are going to need to achieve the look you wan

When you are placing solar garden lights the most important thing is that it gets enough sunlight during the day to keep the battery charged at night when the sun isn’t out.   Be sure to set your lights in places where they get the most sun possible throughout the day.  Another thing you need to think about is how much water will be getting to the lights.  Solar garden lights are water resistant not water proof so you need to keep them in dryer areas of the garden to prevent water and condensation from building up in the light fixture.

In decorating you garden you want to make sure that you use alternate spacing in order to give a sense of balance to the space.  This means you should stagger your lights and plants rather than line them up in rows.  This will also give the appearance of more fullness and make it seem more lush.  Keep in mind the style of your home and yard when choosing your lights.  There are many different types of decorative solar garden lights out there so you are bound to find one that really matches your decor.

Solar lights are really meant for decoration and not safety lighting.  If you want something that will light up the entire garden so that you can see it clearly at night then solar lighting may not be for you.  But if you are looking for something to beautify your garden and add a little charm then keep solar lighting in mind as it will add that perfect finishing touch on your already beautiful garden.

6 Simple Steps to Make LED Grow Lights

Most indoor plant farmers choose Light-Emitting Diode lamps or LED grow lights for their indoor plant business as they are proven to be ideal for herbs, vegetables and flowers.  Not only that, it also have its benefits too, i.e., lower maintenance expense, bigger electrical savings and most of all, environment friendly.

Now you can make your own LED grow lights by following the 6 simple steps I have enumerated below.  For a start, have these stuffs prepared: ceiling panel, drill and bit, 2 strands of red and blue LED Christmas lights, glue gun, glue stick and a thin rope to be used for mounting.

Here’s how to do it

1.  Make 50 holes on your ceiling panel by marking 5 rows with 10 holes each row while leaving a space of about ¼ inch wide in-between each row.  Leave also a 6 inch space about the outer perimeter.  Bore the holes every 3 1/2 inches with the use of your drill and bit.

2.  Thrust the lights through the back of the panel until the tip of the lights stick out of the surface of the panel. Make sure they are well-fit and properly secured. Also, never attempt to pull the lights through the hole as you risk damaging the bulbs.

3.  Hot glue with your glue gun and glue stick the cord to the panel on both sides of each hole to make them secured.

4.  On using the first strand of lights, switch the next strand into the end of the first one and skip a hole. Hot glue the plastic portion of the plug to the panel to secure it. Repeat the process with the other lights into the holes.

5.  Bore 2 holes on both ends of the panel and slip a 6 foot section of the mounting rope through the top and up through the other hole. Make a loop and secure it. Repeat the same for the other side.

6.  Install hooks over your seedlings and suspend the ceiling panel on them. Switch it on and your done. A word of advise though. Use switch plate covers for your switch to prevent any electrical accidents.

One more thing, the electricity that these LED grow lights consume is very small that it can be operated by a small solar energy panel.  Now that is another great way to save money on your electricity bills.

Picking the Right Garden Lights

It really is important to look at our gardens once the sun goes down and all the garden lighting is on. Cute little garden gnomes with lighted hats, dragonfly lanterns and lighted butterfly outlines are all very tempting and even cute while we are working in the garden. It’s important to consider where garden lighting will be placed and how much light is needed when we purchase additional fixtures. Even the most beautifully decorated garden can look garish and overdone when garden lighting is placed in well lit areas. Frankly, it can look down-right tacky.

It’s good that most garden light styles are easy to rearrange around the more creative light fixtures we just can’t resist. This is absolutely true of solar garden lights because they do not require wiring or any type of plug-in connection. For the easiest installation and flexibility in design, lights that come with individual solar cells are the best option. There solar lights sold in strings but this style presents the limitation of movement due to the connection of all the lights having to be connected to one solar cell.

Yet, the string of solar powered lights is far more flexibility than even low-voltage lighting which, although more energy efficient than most styles, still has to be plugged into a regular AC outlet. Although low-voltage garden lights are easy to install and don’t require wiring, they can’t be placed too far away from the outlet without extension cords. Standard garden lighting offers the least amount of flexibility because it has to be wired into the main power grid of the home and, generally, need to be stationary. Solar garden lights can be placed anywhere on the property with the only concern being that the solar cells within them get plenty of sunshine during the day.

Solar lights can offer an efficient source of lighting

Solar lights can offer an efficient source of lighting as well as a less expensive one.  Solar lights charge during the day and the amount of power they get will depend on the amount of sunlight exposure throughout the day.  Some even contain sensors so that they automatically turn on when the light gets low so that you do not have to manually control them.

Solar driveway lights are options for those who need to light their when frequently arriving home at night.  Not only are they convenient, but they also provide a measure of security as you get yourself inside your home.  Driveway lighting may also be used to add to the exterior beauty of your home, giving you an added decorative feature to your landscaping.  This means that driveway lights may be a lot more than markers attached to rods stuck in the ground or flat lights embedded in the driveway itself.

These lights may be in the form of sleek stainless steel designs that give the décor a contemporary edge or fake rocks to compliment the outdoor landscape.  You may also find lighting in many other colorful forms such as flowers, butterflies or other statuettes such as animals, birds or even children.  With so many designs available, there should be something to compliment the existing décor of your landscaping or give it a whole new flavor.

Solar lighting is typically very inexpensive depending upon what types of lights you get.  Many cost less than $20, but there are also those that cost upwards of $150.  However, they are usually easy to install, so you will not have to hire a professional to set up your lights.  Whether you need pathway lights or decorative ones, you should be able to find something to accommodate your solar lighting needs.

Possessing your own garden is wonderful, for this will be the place where you could visit, unwind, and let go of all your daily stress and tension. With the maintenance of your garden comes its beautification. When enhancing the look of a garden, the main element of landscaping would be the ornamental plants, which are artistically planted in perfect places where it would also grow and flourish well. Accessories are also vital—statues, planters, garden urns, special rocks, etc. When all are arranged in their perfect spots or places, what you need more is to magnify the beauty of your garden with various garden spot lights.

Garden spot light brings attention or give focus to your special rare plants or your priced ornaments such as your expensive garden urns or sculptures. The lights’ positions also give off a certain mysterious and elegant ambiance. It really is all in the positioning.

Aside from ground spotlights, also available are lights that are attached on stakes, so the light is a bit above ground. These lights are often small with heads in swivels that you could angle to the direction you want. Since the size of the garden lights are relatively small, most of the time you can hide it in bushes, giving an area a charming greenish glow. Many of these spotlights are powered in different ways such as with low-wattage LED (light-emitting diode) or solar powered panels.

The more popular lighting fixture nowadays is the solar spotlight because of its low cost of operation. There is the stake kind where you can just stick it in the ground in any part of the garden and it is ready to function. The one with the bracket allows you to mount it on any flat surface. Likewise, you can find beautiful wireless post lamps also powered by sunlight. The good thing about these solar-powered lights is that they also have a sensor, so when the bright day starts to dim because of bad weather these will automatically light up. Of course, they automatically light up during evenings.

Another variety is the tall lantern light post design. Most of the time, the light post has a copper top, giving it a more striking look—a look of the styles of the past. Also, special-colored spotlights can be used to give a garden a more elegant lighting effect. This is great for exterior home decorating.

Your garden, no matter what the size, will look expensively landscaped with the help of garden spots lights. That’s the secret.

Guide to Outdoor String Lights

Outdoor string lights are great decorating items for entertaining outdoors. They come in different styles, so you are sure of getting a set/s that exactly fits your party theme. Before heading out to buy some patio string lights, be sure to read this article to get a grasp on what’s available on the market.

Simple rope lights – this is the basic style of string lights. It simply consists of small light bulbs consecutively strung together. Some variations allow you to choose from a steady glow to a blinking pattern. It comes in clear versions, or colored ones.
Curtain lights – consists of short strands of lights hung close together on a length of wire. When hung under the eaves of a house, the effect is similar to a cascade.
Globular string lights – consists of string lights with the individual lights encased in a globe or shade.
Festoon lights – usually associated with holidays, and also known as garland lights.
Solar-powered string lights – basically the same as regular electric-powered string lights, except with a solar panel at one end in place of a power plug.
Led string lighting – the newest innovation in string lights. LED lights use 80% less power than incandescent lights. They also do not emit any radiation, so moths and other bugs don’t get attracted to them.
Novelty string lights – these are the ‘fun’ string lights. The bulbs are encased in shapes such as cartoon characters, or animals, or other popular themes, which makes it ideal for highly informal, themed gatherings such as Halloween or kiddie parties.

No matter which style you choose, just remember that safety always comes first. Only purchase from dealers who maintain high quality standards. Though substandard sets come cheaper, the potential fire hazard isn’t worth it. Always inspect your items individually for any damage or weak spots in the wiring, and follow manufacturer guidelines for installation, maintenance and use.

Solar Technology in Patio Lights

Why the patio or particularly the patio lights is the direct application that solar technology has been broadening their horizons into? You may have been wondering about this question too when you are bombarded here and there with ads promoting solar technology application. It is not a secret and there is no wonder as to why solar and light technology brought together solar patio lights.

Solar technology is using the energy from the sun to power some electronic devices such as outdoor lights. Outdoor lights are perfect for solar technology to be applied because these lights are directly in contact with sunlight at least eight hours a day which makes them highly capable to store energy from sun light.  This energy charged is stored for use later in the day when night falls.

Indoor lights are not very accessible to direct sunlight which is why they are still not for use inside the house. It is possible to use solar energy to compensate the power requirement inside the house but that may still be a long time coming.

The good thing about them is that their designs are not limited. Whatever preexisting trendy designs out there for typical outdoor light, solar powered lights have a corresponding light design as well. These lights even have more character than all the other because they have solar panels attached to them somewhere.

This is why solar powered patio lights have solar panels attached to them so it can be able to do recharging on its own. In fact this is what makes the lights expensive because the cost of production of even a small solar panel is high. Once it’s yours, it’s yours for as long as you take good care of the lights. Another plus factor is that these lights are so much easy to install. This I might add is saving you the trouble of calling some electrician to fix your outdoor lights for you. Solar post lights are also a convenient way to light up a patio. They stick into the soil around the patio to make a clear border.
